Microsoft is redesigning the Start menu in Windows 11 with a new, wider design allowing users to disable recommended feed of files and apps.
Microsoft revealed five concept designs for Start menu redesign, including a rounded menu with widget-like functionality, a separate 'For You' section, and a layout resembling a landing page.
The design process involved various prototypes and testing with over 300 Windows 11 fans to focus on app visibility, customizability, speed, while honoring familiar aspects for users.
The new Start menu will be bigger, customizable, and include the ability to remove the recommended feed. It will feature a phone companion panel for quick access to recent calls, messages, and phone files.
