Microsoft has developed the Aurora AI model that can accurately predict air quality, hurricanes, typhoons, and other weather-related events.
Aurora has been trained on more than a million hours of data from various sources and can make predictions with greater precision and speed compared to traditional meteorological methods.
The AI model, Aurora, outperformed expert predictions by forecasting Typhoon Doksuri's landfall in the Philippines four days in advance and successfully predicted the 2022 Iraq sandstorm.
Microsoft has made the source code and model weights of Aurora publicly available and is incorporating its AI modeling into the MSN Weather app for hourly forecasts, including cloud predictions.
