Microsoft is replacing the iconic 'blue screen of death' with a black screen displaying a restart timer, aiming to streamline the unexpected restart experience for users.
The change is part of Microsoft's effort to embed resilience and security into the Windows platform through the Windows Resiliency Initiative.
The new unexpected restart screen will feature a simplified user interface on Windows 11, version 24H2 devices, enhancing readability and aligning with Windows 11 design principles.
Microsoft is offering extended security updates for Windows 10 users who cannot or will not upgrade to Windows 11, providing options like Windows Backup sync, Microsoft Rewards points redemption, or a $30 one-off fee.
