Doctors often face administrative burdens that contribute to burnout, according to Scott Smitherman, an internal medicine doctor and chief medical information officer at Providence.
To help ease the burden, Smitherman has been testing an app called Dragon Ambient eXperience (DAX) that uses AI to generate medical notes for patient interactions.
While many doctors using DAX like it, there has been resistance to change and reluctance to give up control of note-writing.
Microsoft and Nuance plan to roll out a fully automated version of DAX this summer that incorporates GPT-4, which is expected to scale faster than the previous version.
