Microsoft will finally stop bugging Windows users about Edge — but only in Europe

  • Microsoft is making changes for Windows users in the European Economic Area as a response to the Digital Markets Act.
  • Users in the EEA now have the option to uninstall the Microsoft Store and avoid prompts to set Microsoft Edge as the default browser.
  • Setting a different browser will pin it to the taskbar for EEA users, and default browser changes will roll out widely in July for both Windows 10 and 11.
  • Other changes include allowing third-party apps to add web search results in Windows Search and enabling Microsoft Bing app to open web content with the default browser.
