Microsoft has announced two new Surface devices, Surface Pro 12-inch and Surface Laptop 13-inch, which no longer come with the company's proprietary Surface Connect charging port.
Both new devices can only be charged through USB-C ports, indicating that Microsoft may be moving away from the magnetic charging port for future models.
Microsoft has previously equipped its Surface laptops and tablets with the Surface Connect port, but the latest Surface devices mark a shift towards exclusive USB-C charging.
In addition to removing the charging port, Microsoft also no longer includes a charger in the box for its latest Surface devices, aligning with efforts to reduce e-waste and complying with EU initiatives.
