Alex Chui, a 41-year-old man from Washington who went missing on Denali, the highest mountain in North America, was found dead on Wednesday morning in Denali National Park and Preserve.
Chui fell at Squirrel Point while ski mountaineering with two other individuals on Monday. Witnesses attempted to locate him after the fall, but he couldn't be found initially, leading to a search operation.
Chui's body was discovered unroped, and weather conditions initially hampered search efforts until two rangers located him from a helicopter early Wednesday morning.
This incident adds to previous fatalities at Squirrel Point, with another unroped mountaineer's death occurring in 2010. The National Park Traveler reported 500 climbers registered on Denali as of Wednesday, with the climbing season's peak usually from late May to late June.
