Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, Minister of investment, trade and industry, will lead Malaysia's delegation to Washington later this month to discuss the reciprocal tariffs imposed by the United States on Malaysia.
The delegation, including officials from MITI, aims to engage with the US and the World Trade Organisation to address the issues and safeguard Malaysia's interests.
Zafrul emphasized the importance of remaining calm and avoiding a trade war, stating that a unified voice from ASEAN countries is essential in areas of common interest.
The US tariff rates range from 10% to as high as 49% for countries in ASEAN, including Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Cambodia, with individualized rates based on country classification.
