43 people have been killed and at least 37 are missing in Himachal Pradesh due to cloudbursts, flash floods, and landslides since the onset of the monsoon last month, costing the state Rs 5,000 crore in damages.
The most deaths, 17, occurred in Mandi district where ten instances of cloudbursts, flash floods, and landslides occurred in a single day.
Search operations are ongoing for the 31 missing individuals from Mandi district alone.
Heavy rain and subsequent landslides have damaged infrastructure, leaving over 150 houses, 106 cattle sheds, and 31 vehicles destroyed. The state has set up relief camps for the rescued individuals and faces disruptions in transportation and essential services.
