Netflix is planning to introduce more ad-supported formats for users, including pause ads and interactive ads, in addition to the current $7.99 per month plan.
The streaming service reported an increase in users for the $7.99 plan, reaching over 94 million users globally per month, marking a 135% increase compared to the previous year.
The new ad formats will be powered by Netflix's in-house advertising platform, already live in the U.S. with plans for expansion to all 12 countries offering ad-supported plans by June.
Netflix's president of advertising, Amy Reinhard, stated that the company aims to tap into its highly engaged audience, with subscribers on the ad-supported tier spending an average of 41 hours per month on the service.
