The APR on a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage is 6.96%, compared to 6.94% last week. Borrowers with a $100,000 mortgage at 6.93% interest would pay approximately $661 per month in principal and interest.
Today, the 15-year mortgage rate increased to 5.98%, with an APR of 6.03%. Borrowers paying the same rate would pay $843 per month in principal and interest for every $100,000 borrowed.
Although mortgage rates had fallen after a high in spring 2024, they surged again in October 2024. Experts do not expect significant drops in rates soon, as rates are affected by economic factors and closely follow U.S. Treasury bond yields.
