The Mumbai Police will appoint a sixth joint commissioner to oversee intelligence gathering and monitor sleeper cells as per an official statement.
The decision comes after the recent India-Pakistan military conflict, with the Maharashtra government initiating the move.
Prior to this decision, Mumbai Police had five joint commissioners responsible for law and order, crime, administration, traffic, and economic offenses.
The new joint commissioner overseeing intelligence will coordinate directly with the police commissioner and the joint commissioner for law and order, enhancing intelligence sharing and swift action capabilities.
