Elon Musk's acquisition of Twitter in January 2022 may have stemmed from a seemingly minor incident involving a denied request to suspend the account @ElonJet, operated by Jack Sweeney, a college student.
Sweeney's account tracked Musk's private jet, leading to annoyance from the Tesla CEO. Musk's unsuccessful petition to then-CEO Parag Agrawal to remove the account reportedly fueled his decision to buy Twitter shares.
Since acquiring Twitter for $44 billion, Musk has made significant changes, including laying off staff and suspending accounts like @ElonJet and those of journalists.
