A nationwide general strike, or Bharat Bandh, is scheduled for July 9th with over 25 crore workers expected to participate from sectors like banking, transport, and construction.
The strike is a protest against what is perceived as 'anti-worker and pro-corporate' reforms, particularly focusing on newly-introduced labour codes that are criticized for diluting protections and limiting rights.
Additional concerns include rising unemployment, inflation, and declining public services, as well as issues such as recruiting retired personnel instead of creating jobs for the youth and restricting migrant workers' rights.
Despite the anticipated disruptions in public-sector services, schools and private offices are expected to remain open. Various associations, like CoSAAP in Arunachal Pradesh, will stage their own protests to address local demands.
