Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown has revealed the 10 recipients of the first incubator program through his nonprofit initiative, Boston XChange (BXC).
The program, in collaboration with JLH Fund, aims to generate $5bn in generational wealth within Boston’s communities of color.
It will provide visionary creators from underrepresented communities with the business resources needed for successful prototypes, produced and launched projects.
As part of the incubator, recipients will receive $100,000 in grant funding and access to work and creator spaces.
Creators will receive business services valued at over $150,000, plus three years of coaching to help accelerate their ventures.
The program was launched as part of Brown's mission to combat Boston's racial wealth gap.
PYNRS Performance Streetwear, Future Masters Chess Academy, Little Cocoa Bean Company, Melanin Haircare, Anawan Studios and Crown Legends are among the recipients.
Uvida Shop, Rivet App, Everybody Gotta Eat and Dorchester Art Project are also participating in the incubator program.
Brown's nonprofit initiative was inspired by his desire to create a 'Black Wall Street' in Boston following last year's protests.
Boston's wealth disparity between Black and White families was drawn to Brown's attention. The average net worth for a Black household in the region in question is $8, compared with six figures for a White household.
