Netflix adds HDR10+ support – great news for Samsung TV owners, but don't expect LG and Sony to do the same any time soon

  • Netflix adds support for HDR10+, a rival to Dolby Vision, on Samsung, Panasonic, Hisense, and TCL TVs.
  • HDR10+ will be available on 50% of 'eligible viewing hours', including new releases and existing content on Netflix Premium.
  • Netflix plans to offer HDR10+ support on all HDR movies and shows by the end of the year.
  • Samsung TVs and phones benefit from HDR10+ as they do not support Dolby Vision unlike other brands.
  • HDR10+ and Dolby Vision offer superior dynamic range and scene-by-scene tone mapping for better picture quality.
  • Even though Dolby Vision is considered technically superior, HDR10+ support has been growing on streaming services.
  • LG and Sony are unlikely to support HDR10+ on their TVs, favoring Dolby Vision.
  • Netflix is asking for Dolby Vision versions from studios, then adding HDR10+ support as well.
  • Samsung owners will see image quality improvements, especially on TVs with lower brightness levels.
  • Samsung promises to repair soundbars affected by a software update for free, aimed at gamers.
