Lithium reserves have been discovered in Degana, Rajasthan, which can reportedly meet up to 80 percent of India's demand for the mineral.
The new lithium reserves in Degana are said to be higher than the recently found reserves in Jammu & Kashmir, which had 5.9 million tonnes of lithium.
India has been import-dependent for minerals like lithium, nickel, and cobalt, but the new discovery in Degana could strengthen the country's supply and support its electric vehicle plans.
The Ministry of Mines aims to address the availability of critical minerals through extensive exploration and offshore mining, and the discovery in Degana could be a significant step in that direction.
