Australian Catholic University researchers have developed a new AI-powered camera system called MonoFG, which could make self-driving cars more affordable and safer.
Unlike current self-driving systems that rely on expensive sensors like LiDAR, MonoFG uses a single monocular camera at a significantly lower cost of around $300 per unit.
MonoFG delivers high accuracy, real-time performance, and can react faster than the average reaction time of a human sprinter.
With its ability to detect pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles, MonoFG can help reduce the risk of accidents and increase public trust in self-driving cars.
