Maruti Suzuki aims to strengthen its market position by launching new product models including hybrids, EVs, and ICE models, with plans to introduce the Maruti e Vitara and Maruti Y17 (codename) during the 2025 Diwali season.
The new Maruti SUV (Y17) will likely be named 'Maruti Escudo' and positioned as a slightly more affordable alternative to the Grand Vitara, challenging competitors in the midsize SUV segment like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, and Volkswagen Taigun.
The Maruti Escudo is expected to skip the hybrid powertrain to achieve competitive pricing, offering a 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine with a possible CNG fuel option. It will share its platform, design, features, and powertrain with the Grand Vitara.
The upcoming Maruti Escudo will be larger than the Brezza and slightly longer than the Grand Vitara, falling between 4,300mm – 4,365mm in length. The interior and features are anticipated to be similar to the Grand Vitara but may lack some premium features to maintain a lower price point.
