Microsoft is introducing a new recovery mode called quick machine recovery (QMR) for Windows 11 PCs to help address widespread boot issues that may prevent proper booting.
The QMR feature, part of the 'Windows Resiliency Initiative,' aims to prevent incidents like the 2024 CrowdStrike outage by providing remote fixes for PCs that cannot boot properly.
The initial version of QMR is being tested in the Canary channel of Microsoft's Windows Insider program before gradually rolling out to more stable testing channels and eventually to all Windows 11 users.
The latest preview build 27898 of Windows 11 also includes additional features like Taskbar item shrinking, changes to app permission pop-ups, and enhancements to speech-to-text functionality.
