A copyright infringement lawsuit against OpenAI and Microsoft can proceed, according to a US federal judge.
US District Judge Sidney Stein ruled that The New York Times and other newspapers can continue with their copyright lawsuit, aiming to end the usage of their stories to train AI chatbots.
OpenAI has faced multiple copyright infringement claims, including lawsuits from US news outlets, Canadian news publishers, and an Indian news publishing group.
The judge dismissed some of the claims but allowed the majority of the case to continue, potentially leading to a jury trial.
