Nintendo is discontinuing its Switch Game Vouchers scheme as of January 30, 2026, which allowed Nintendo Switch Online subscribers to buy Switch 1 games at a discount.
No reason was provided for the discontinuation, but it follows Nintendo's decision not to allow vouchers to be redeemed for Switch 2 software and the launch of Nintendo's first $80 game, Mario Kart World.
Switch Game Vouchers were introduced in 2019, offering a flat purchase price for two Nintendo Switch games bought within a 12-month period, providing savings compared to standard game prices.
Although not extended to Switch 2 games, fans could still use vouchers to buy the original versions of games with paid Switch 2 upgrades, providing a cheaper method of getting these titles.
