Nissan is pausing the development of some new cars to focus on cost-cutting measures, including axing up to 20,000 jobs and shutting down seven factories.
Approximately 3,000 people from the R&D team have been reassigned to work on cost reduction initiatives during the pause in new car development.
Despite pausing development, Nissan aims to optimize the vehicle development process, reducing the time to bring new models to market and standardizing platforms to cut costs.
The company plans to launch new models like a global compact crossover, a similarly sized model under the Infiniti badge, and potentially a new Skyline model as part of its recovery plan titled 'Re:Nissan'.
