No tax notice has been issued to former Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, clarified government sources, regarding the recent scrutiny process based on pre-defined risk parameters.
The scrutiny, part of the Computer-Assisted Scrutiny Selection system, flagged cases automatically without human intervention. Cases were selected if taxpayers claimed deductions exceeding Rs 5 crore under specific sections of the Income Tax Act.
A notice was triggered for Lata Eknath Shinde, Eknath Shinde's wife, for claiming a deduction exceeding Rs 5 crore under certain provisions, but no notices were issued to Eknath Shinde or his son as part of the current cycle.
The Income Tax Department highlighted that the scrutiny process is technology-driven and applied uniformly to all taxpayers, aiming to ensure digital interface through the Faceless Assessment Scheme.
