Noel Tata has been appointed as the chairman of Tata Trusts, succeeding his late half-brother Ratan Tata, who passed away at 86.
Noel, already chairman of Tata Trent and vice-chairman of Tata Steel, takes over the philanthropic arm, which owns 66% of Tata Sons. Ratan Tata, who never married or had children, left his succession a key issue.
Tata Trusts, established in 1892 by their great-grandfather Jamsetji Tata, focuses on education, healthcare, and housing. This appointment holds immense significance for the future of the Tata conglomerate, one of India's largest and most influential business groups.
