New York will be the first US state that mandates private employers to provide pregnant women with paid prenatal leave.
The 20 hours of paid prenatal leave (per year) is supposed to give all pregnant women working in the private sector time off to take care of themselves or undergo pregnancy-related healthcare or medical care.
The law covers both full-time and part-time employees who directly receive prenatal health care services.
The 'paid prenatal personal leave' can be used for medical procedures, tests, physical examinations, and consultations with healthcare providers about pregnancy.
