OceanGate's former chief pilot, David Lochridge, claimed he was cut out from the Titan project after warning CEO Stockton Rush about safety concerns surrounding the submersible.
Lochridge stated that Rush ignored his warnings about the safety of the Titan submersible, which was later destroyed in a deadly implosion during a visit to the wreck of the Titanic.
In the documentary 'Titan: The OceanGate Disaster,' Lochridge recounted incidents where Rush piloted a submarine recklessly, leading to safety risks during dives.
After expressing his safety concerns, Lochridge said he was progressively excluded from the Titan project by senior management, ultimately leading to his dismissal in 2018.
Claims were made that OceanGate threatened to sue Lochridge for raising allegations that he was fired in retaliation for pointing out safety issues with the Titan submersible.
Lochridge highlighted concerns about the stability of Titan's carbon fiber hull and criticized the design team's lack of experience, mentioning issues like porosity and delaminations in the construction.
Footage from the documentary showed disagreements between Rush and Lochridge regarding the sub's ability to withstand extreme depths, with Rush asserting confidence in the submarine's capabilities.
OceanGate ceased operations in July 2023 and has not provided any comments on the situation.
'Titan: The OceanGate Disaster' is available for streaming on Netflix.
