Japanese startup Ookuma Diamond Device (ODD) has raised $27 million to build the world's first diamond semiconductor manufacturing facility in Fukushima.
ODD's diamond chips are being used in efforts to remove radioactive debris at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.
Diamond chips have superior power conversion efficiency and can withstand high temperatures and radiation levels, unlike traditional silicon-based chips.
ODD's focus on developing pure diamond semiconductors positions them in a growing market, with expectations that diamond materials used in chips will reach $10 billion by 2032.
