OpenAI has finalized its acquisition of io, the hardware startup co-founded by Jony Ive, for nearly $6.5 billion.
The initial announcement of the acquisition was removed from OpenAI's site due to a trademark lawsuit from another startup, Iyo.
Following the completion of the acquisition, the io Products Inc. team has merged with OpenAI, while Jony Ive and LoveFrom remain independent with design responsibilities.
The deal aims to create specialized AI hardware, although a video announcement featuring OpenAI's CEO and Jony Ive has been removed from the website and social media due to the lawsuit.
