Panama City becomes one of the first Latin American capitals to integrate crypto payments in its municipal system, allowing residents to pay for public services using cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDC, and USDT.
The integration is made possible through a council-approved proposal and collaboration with banks capable of converting crypto to fiat currency.
Unlike previous attempts at national-level legislation, Panama City bypasses national legislation by implementing local regulation to embrace digital assets.
The move reflects a global trend towards government acceptance of crypto payments, with countries like El Salvador and municipalities like Zug already embracing cryptocurrencies.
