Octavia’s Bookshelf, the Black-owned bookstore in Pasadena, California, named after Octavia Butler, has transformed into a resource center for victims of the Los Angeles fires.
The store serves as a safe haven for those displaced by the fires, particularly the Black community in the heavily impacted area of Altadena.
The bookstore provides essential items, charging stations, and volunteer initiatives to support fire victims, including elderly and disabled individuals.
The bookshop plans to transition into a community sanctuary with writing workshops and other activities after the resource distribution phase.
