Penang is considering a bridge as an alternative to its undersea tunnel project for the island's third link to the mainland.
The state government is evaluating a new design change for another bridge across the Penang Straits, with a feasibility study completed in 2023.
The implementation study for the alternative bridge design will be finalized after completing the traffic impact assessment and necessary evaluation.
The undersea tunnel project was first proposed in 2011 as part of the Penang transport master plan but may be replaced by a third bridge connecting the island and the mainland.
