The US Defense Department is letting go around 60,000 civilian employees through voluntary workforce reduction.
Around 21,000 employees have already opted for voluntary retirement.
The Pentagon aims to reduce the defense workforce by 5-8% and will not replace the employees who leave, resulting in a monthly reduction of approximately 6,000 roles.
The reductions in defense jobs are part of the administration's efforts to shrink the federal workforce and will not impact national security.
