The European Space Agency's Mars Express spacecraft recently captured a picture of surface structures on Mars that resemble Earth-bound spiders, reminiscent of David Bowie's backing band, the Spiders from Mars.
These spider-like patterns are formed by layers of carbon dioxide ice on Mars, which turn to gas and burst through the ice, bringing up dark dust that settles along fissures.
While this observation doesn't indicate life on Mars, it adds to our understanding of the planet and is a fun reference to classic rock culture.
The ESA's Mars probes have previously provided interesting findings about our planetary neighbor.
