From January to November this year, a total of 95,298 summonses were issued against road users for running a red light.
Car drivers recorded the highest number of summonses with 44,889 issued, followed by motorcyclists (39,468), lorry drivers (3,937), and other vehicles (7,004).
JSPT will carry out stricter monitoring and enforcement at hotspot locations, upgrading CCTVs at primary intersections to detect offences and arrest perpetrators immediately.
The penalty for red light violations under Section 79(2) of the Road Transport Act 1987 is a fine of RM300 to RM2,000.
