The head writers of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a popular franchise, have admitted to the mistake of casting Black and Asian actors as the Black and Yellow Rangers, respectively, perpetuating racial stereotypes.
Former Power Rangers head writer Tony Oliver shared that it took his assistant one day to call out the racial stereotypes in the casting.
Fans have mixed opinions about the issue, with some feeling that the representation in the 90s was good enough for the time, while others believe that more thought should have been given to avoid stereotypes.
Some fans also pointed out that the roles were eventually replaced, with a Black actor playing the Yellow Ranger and an Asian actor playing the Black Ranger.
