The UK government urges Prax Lindsey oil refinery owners to financially support affected workers amid concerns about finding a buyer for the insolvent plant.
The owners, Arani and Sanjeev Kumar Soosaipillai, are encouraged to make a voluntary financial contribution to assist workers, some of whom have already lost their jobs.
The company reportedly owes £250m to HM Revenue and Customs, making it challenging to sell the refinery which was acquired in 2021 after amassing significant debts.
The government is buying fuel from the refinery's supplier to ensure continued operation, while efforts to find a buyer for the plant are ongoing. The UK government aims to assist redundant workers in finding new employment opportunities.
