A proposed bill in Virginia aims to require motorists caught speeding multiple times to install speed-limiting technology in their vehicles.
The technology, known as Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) program, would require offenders to fit their vehicles with a speed-limiter or upgrade to a newer model that already has the technology.
ISA systems are not new and have been mandated in Europe since July 2022, where they use GPS and traffic sign data to display the posted speed limit on a car's dashboard.
The bill in Virginia is yet to provide details on how the technology will be enforced, but if passed, it would go into effect by July 2026.
