Lawmakers in the US Senate Banking Committee questioned prospective SEC member Paul Atkins on his ties to the crypto industry and potential regulation of digital assets.
Atkins was asked to disclose the buyers of his consulting firm Patomak Global Partners, which advised crypto exchange FTX before its collapse.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren raised concerns about potential conflicts of interest and suggested that the sale of Patomak could be a 'pre-bribe' for Atkins' services.
Atkins, who served as an SEC commissioner from 2002 to 2008, is nominated as the potential SEC chair to replace Gary Gensler.
