Proton has reintroduced the 'cash for clunkers' program, now named the Proton Xchange Programme, offering a RM2,000 discount for scrapping 15-year-old vehicles towards the purchase of a new Proton model.
The program, supported by the government for promoting road safety and sustainable mobility, is open to owners of old vehicles that are uneconomical to repair and have been officially deregistered.
Participants must provide a Certificate of Destruction from Car Medic, the program's partner, and a JPJK1KD form for verification, with the RM2,000 incentive valid for all Proton models, including the upcoming Proton eMas 7 EV.
Proton has allocated RM4.8 million for this initiative, limited to 2,400 units and running until December 2025, with new car registrants under the program also receiving one-year free road tax.
