PTA’s New Policy Ends ‘Bill Shock’ for Pakistani Mobile Users

  • The National Assembly was informed that Cellular Mobile Operators (CMOs) will only allow 3rd party Value Added Service (VAS) providers with commercial agreements to offer subscription through mobile billing.
  • To activate a VAS, consumers will receive a confirmation message with an OTP (One-Time Password). After entering the OTP, the VAS will be activated.
  • All subscribed VAS will be visible on the respective mobile apps of CMOs for consumer reference.
  • The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has directed all CMOs to activate VAS only after obtaining prior consent from consumers to prevent bill-shock and protect consumers.
