Meta is forming a new team within its Reality Labs hardware division to develop AI-powered humanoid robots.
The team will be led by Marc Whitten, former CEO of General Motors' Cruise self-driving division, and will add about 100 engineers this year.
Meta plans to focus on developing its own humanoid robot hardware, with a focus on household chores, as well as AI, sensors, and software.
The company believes that humanoid robots will be a major focus for Meta and the tech industry, although widespread availability is still a couple of years away.
