Ph.D. student Emmeline Norris from James Cook University in Australia used drones to study the elusive Bennett’s tree kangaroo in the Daintree Rainforest Observatory.
The thermal imaging capabilities of the drones helped identify and observe the tree kangaroos, which live in the rainforest canopy.
Emmeline's research revealed that Bennett's tree kangaroos are abundant in the lowland rainforest at Cape Tribulation, providing evidence of their population expansion.
This study showcases the potential of non-invasive drone technology in ecological research and contributes to the conservation of Australia's unique wildlife.
