Barcelona-based architecture studio Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura unveils a masterplan for the Royal Arts Complex (RAC) in Riyadh as a bold architectural anchor in King Salman Park, reimagining the former military airport with a vast green urban center.
The RAC is a constellation of cultural venues along a 1.5-kilometer central boulevard, fragmented into thirteen distinct components supporting various facets of cultural life, including theaters, amphitheaters, a cinema hall, museum, artist studios, and academies.
The design responds to Riyadh's climate with a material palette of warm desert tones, balancing mass and void to create a tactile connection between architecture and terrain, rooted in its arid context.
The Royal Arts Complex integrates into Riyadh's urban fabric through its proximity to the Loop transportation system, offering spatial diversity with varied scaled volumes and a fragmented monumentality that invites exploration and interaction within the cultural destination.
