Microsoft has officially shut down the Skype app and service to focus on Microsoft Teams, their competitor to Slack.
Users are now being directed to use Microsoft Teams instead of Skype, with the Skype Dial Pad being the last feature reserved for Skype subscribers.
Skype, once a popular choice for video calls, was acquired by Microsoft in 2011 for $8.5 billion and had a history of ownership by eBay and venture capital firms.
Ironically, Microsoft purchased Skype to replace its own Windows Live Messenger, leading to the end of the service which marked the era of video calling.
