<ul data-eligibleForWebStory="true">Ripple will launch an Ethereum-compatible sidechain for the XRP Ledger by the end of Q2 2025.The sidechain will enable Ethereum-based smart contracts and DeFi apps on Ripple's Layer 1 infrastructure.The announcement was made during XRPL Apex 2025 in Singapore by Ripple's product lead and CTO.This launch coincides with Ripple's legal battle with the SEC, with a deadline for a $50M settlement report by June 16.The new sidechain is already supported by 87 entities, including DeFi protocols, oracles, wallets, and block explorers.It leverages the evmOS framework and combines Ethereum's smart contract capabilities with XRPL's transaction infrastructure.The sidechain introduces Wrapped XRP as the native gas token for cross-chain transactions.XRP is currently trading at US$2.27, experiencing a slight 1.6% decrease during the day session.However, its value has dropped over 10% in the last 30 days, according to CoinGecko data.
