Ripple has launched a new blockchain pilot in Colombia for smallholder farmers, utilizing XRP Ledger for traceability and microfinance.
The pilot introduces a 'Farm Now, Pay Later' model providing upfront resources with post-harvest repayment.
About 300 farmers are part of the program producing 240 tonnes of panela monthly, with a focus on financial inclusion and sustainable development.
The blockchain-based system allows tracking via QR codes to enhance transparency in the supply chain and aims to establish a global model for financial inclusion in rural agriculture.
