A European rocket launched from mainland Europe crashed into the Norwegian Sea, 30 seconds after take-off, in a powerful explosion.
The rocket, named Spectrum, was developed by German start-up Isar Aerospace and was intended to be the first rocket capable of reaching orbit launched from continental Europe.
Despite the crash, Isar Aerospace considered the mission to be a success as it provided valuable flight data and experience for future missions.
The launch was delayed due to weather conditions and the rocket did not carry a payload on its first flight.
