The Indian rupee opened weaker against the US dollar at 85.57 following Donald Trump's threat of imposing a 10% extra tariff on BRICS countries.
Trump's warning was in response to what he referred to as 'anti-American policies' within the BRICS nations.
BRICS, an intergovernmental organization consisting of 10 countries, including India, China, and Brazil, is currently holding a leaders' summit in Rio De Janeiro.
The developing nations in BRICS are expected to take a stance conflicting with Trump on trade tariffs, Middle East conflict, and global arms spending.
