Samsung buys Xealth to integrate its wearables into the healthcare system

  • Samsung is acquiring Xealth, a digital health platform, to integrate wearables into the healthcare system. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed, and the acquisition is expected to be completed by the end of the year, pending necessary approvals.
  • The acquisition aims to transform Samsung into a connected care platform by combining its wearable technology with Xealth's platform. This integration will create a link between home health monitoring and clinical decision-making, focusing on preventative care.
  • Xealth enables doctors to monitor patients and schedule care at scale. Over 500 hospitals and 70+ digital health solution partners currently use Xealth, which originated from the Providence health system. All these entities will gain access to Samsung's platform.
  • This move by Samsung comes amidst a projected 56% drop in operating profit for the second quarter, mainly due to poor sales of its AI chips. Samsung's diversification beyond its core businesses is apparent with this acquisition. The news was first reported on Engadget.
